6 New Accommodation options in Kei!

6 New Accommodation options in Kei!

1. Vid Fauw Oasis

This is a newly built villa with 3 rooms available for rent. They have very nice rooms with a big common area and terraces. The location is more central for tours and activities that the beach options on Kei. You can swim and paddle a boat, and there are nice views but there isn’t a sandy beach. The best restaurant in Kei (Forganza Cafe) is within walking distance. This is very good value (450,000 IDR including breakfast) for what they offer. I could also imagine a group or family renting all 3 rooms to have a private getaway. Bicycles and scooters are also available. The cook makes delicious food! (meals 80,000 IDR extra) For me personally, I prefer to stay in Ohoi dertawun but I enjoyed it more than staying on Pasir Panjang. I will stay here again in the future.

2. Tumbuh Oasis

This was under construction when I stayed next door at Savana Cottages in August 2024. It is now open and this is likely the poshest place to stay in Kei. I met the very friendly Dutch owners who speak perfect English. They are family of Savana Cottages next door but operate independently. I’ll try to add more info and photos later or next time I’m in Kei 🙂 The owner/manager has a very popular Instagram . More information and photos are on their Booking.com page

3. Sarang – The Travelers’ Nest

Sarang is a an isolated retreat on the northwest coast of Kei Kecil. It would suit tourists who want to get away from everything or prefer silence and serenity. The rooms are very large and nice. The attached toilets and showers are quite basic though. The owner/manager is a dive master and can do snorkeling (and diving?) trips. I stayed here in 2024 and it was nice but I felt a bit bored after awhile. I found the food to be okay but not amazing or anything. I don’t think I will stay again but I met another couple who was there for 2 weeks and just loved it! They enjoyed fishing and laying on the beach all day 🙂 Electricity is by generator and is only available part of the day. There is basic English spoken. I forget the exact price but it was something like 500,000 IDR + transport + meals.

4. Homestay in Hollat

This is a basic but comfortable homestay on Kei Besar. Hollat is a few kilometers from Hoko, which is Kei’s best and most famous waterfall. The owners are friendly with good food but doesn’t speak English so you’ll get some bahasa practice 🙂 Again I forget the price but it wasn’t expensive–maybe 200,000 IDR with meals.

5. Homestay in Haar

This is another nice homestay located in Kei Besar (see also my trip to northeast Kei Besar). I haven’t stayed here yet but I hope to in the future.

6. Wab Villa

I also haven’t stayed here yet. It is a large villa with 2 or 3 rooms available for rent. If I remember correctly, the price per room is about 500,000 IDR/night with shared bath. I stayed with a family in Wab and stopped by to take some photos. It’s located 50 meters from the beach, which is one of the best beaches in Kei.
